On 15th March Paganel Girls’ football team played against St Laurence in their quarter final match of the Tim Weatherup Cup. The girls faced a determined St Laurence team and despite the girls’ determination, perseverance and respect for each other it wasn’t meant to be. Miss Calder and I are proud of you all. Keep your heads held high.
On 20th March Paganel played host to The Meadows in the Mike Smith division. We started the game of on the front foot taking total control of the match, extending a quick 3-0 lead. Meadows caused us a few scary moments, which Callum (Goalkeeper) dealt with really well. Meadows scored, and Paganel replied making it 4-1, but Meadows scored just before the whistle so half time score was 4-2.The second half was a closer game, full of action end to end, but neither side added to the score. A good result for the team.
On 22nd March Haroon, Charlie, Joe, Charlie, Ali (Year 4) Keylan and James (Year 5) took park in the Kings Norton District Schools Football competition. In the group stage Paganel were against St Laurence and St Mary’s, playing each team twice. The first 2 games resulted in 0-0 draws. Paganel’s second match against St Mary’s was dominated by Paganel with James linking up a lot of the play, he soon found Haroon who scored to finish 1-0. Our final group stage game was against St Laurence and it wasn’t long before James whipped the ball in again to Haroon who slipped it into the back of the net. St Laurence grabbed a late goal leaving it 1-1. Paganel finished top of their group and were through to the quarter finals against Bournville.
From the off Paganel controlled play, the ball was rarely in Paganel’s half and when it was Charlie defended well. James struck the ball with a blistering left foot strike, deflecting off Haroon, sending Bournville’s keeper the wrong way, and seeing Paganel win 1-0 and go through to the semi finals against St John Bosco. Paganel kept their heads up and took the lead through a goal from James. St John Bosco soon levelled the score and continued strongly. Charlie managed some tremendous saves to keep the score level throughout the match, however within the dying seconds of the game St John Bosco grabbed a winner.
Mr Clayton and Mrs McGettrick were very impressed how the boys played as a unit for the first time and they were great ambassadors for Paganel. Well done to all the boys.
On 27th March we had another game played and another fantastic performance. Paganel dominated the match against Northfield Manor, getting off to a flying start and scoring the first within a few minutes. As the game progressed Northfield started to come more into the game earning themselves a penalty. With cat like reflexes Luke dived to his left to make a brilliant save. As time moved on we ourselves were awarded a penalty which was duly dispatched by Liam. As the game ticked on we took our chances with James scoring 4; Liam 2; Theirn 2 and our debut player David scoring 1. Amir and Keylan once again were solid as our 2 defenders. You should all be really proud of your performance.
