Jewellery, Make-Up and Hair

No jewellery is to be worn to school. The only exceptions to this are a wrist watch and the wearing of ear studs. Such items must be removed for practical lessons. In the event of a recent piercing, a plaster supplied from home must be applied. School accepts no responsibility at any time for these items. Children found wearing jewellery, other than ear studs and wrist watch, will have will have the jewellery confiscated and returned at the end of the day.

The following items are also not allowed to be worn in school:

  • Make-up
  • False nails
  • Large hair bows

We expect children to dress in a way that does not distract themselves or others from their learning. Brightly coloured hair, temporary tattoos, nail varnish etc should not be worn as normal practice and, if we are concerned, we will contact parents to discuss this.

The school accepts no responsibility for the loss or damage to clothing or personal effects.

As neither the Authority nor the school has an insurance provision for loss or damage to clothing or personal effects, parents should consider insurance cover through their own insurers. Valuable items like expensive watches, jewellery and electronic equipment etc. should not be sent to school. Mobile phones brought into school for Y5 & Y6 must be given to the class teacher to be placed in the class room safe during the school day.

Please note, the school will make reasonable adjustments to our school uniform policy based on the advice of medical professionals. If a parent/carer wishes the school to make a reasonable adjustment for their child, the onus is on the parent/carer to seek the necessary professional advice and produce the documentary evidence required to make the adjustment.

The school will also make reasonable adjustments based on protected characteristics and religion, so as not to discriminate.
