Recently, Snapchat have updated the app to include a virtual map which shows a near exact location of others on their friend list.
The map is accurate to the street and can be as accurate as showing which house the is in. We are aware children use this app, so it has huge implications in terms of children’s safety online.
This setting can be changed no the app, you need to put it into ‘ghost mode’, which means that their location will not be shared with others on the map.
The new update also allows for people to view other peoples’ ‘snaps’ from around their area, without them needing to be friends. Again this is a concern, as the content could be inappropriate. This feature cannot be turned off, so we advice that you remove this app completely from your children’s devices to ensure their safety.
This app should only be used by children over aged 13 years old.
